Mixed Blessings
School started a few weeks ago here. We had the option to send our kids to school hybrid or virtual, we chose virtual. It’s a mixed blessing for sure. I get to spend more time with my children, and I know that they are not going to be around other kids or adults who may not be taking precautions like us. This also means that there is a ton of virtual learning going on which can be difficult. Seriously.
My aunt is a former educator of over 35 years. I am so thankful for her. She comes to my house 5 days a week to help out. She has the patience to teach, I do not. Have I helped? Absolutely I have. She is more the teacher, I am more the making sure everything is turned in person, but sometimes I fail. It’s not that I am a failure, more so I don’t know how to read all the programs. It’s funny how you can fall behind in technology.
I use only Apple products. It’s not that I have anything against the other companies, it’s just that I have been using an Apple Computer since I was in college. Shout out to the ones that came in all different colors (iMac G3)! We have 5 iPhones, 6 iPads, an iMac Desktop, and a MacBook Pro. As you can see, we are pretty big on Apple! I never got into some of the products that came installed on my mac like Keynote, Pages, or whatever else they installed. I used Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for Mac. Well, the strangest thing happened to my computer. All those “Windows” based programs stopped working! This forced me to use a new one I was not familiar with.
If I am being honest, I am still not familiar with it, but it has forced me to learn something new and step out of my comfort zone. Has life ever thrown you a monkey wrench and made it so you have no choice but to step out of your comfort zone? I am finding that this is what life is mostly made up of. Moments where you are thrown into situations where you are completely uncomfortable and have to find your way. If I am being even more honest, I am still finding my way with life. Aren’t we all? If you’re not, I want to be you. LOL!
So while this school year is different thus far, I am thankful that I have my kids at home to drive me nuts. I am thankful they are safe. I am thankful they can help me navigate these new computer programs, and that I get more time with them. They are growing so fast, and one day they will be out of the nest. A mixed blessing that while most cannot admit, we really needed to see what was and is important. The little things sometimes really are the big things staring at us, and they are our biggest blessing.
